The flowering banksia dries out, seeds, and then becomes as hard as wood. Woodworkers turn this into vases and other decorative items; examples of this are on display at Dwellingup's Forest Heritage Centre in Western Australia. Dozens of varieties of banksias can be found in the Lane Poole Reserve forests in springtime.
