A female Australian sea lion (Neophoca cinerea) emerges from the water and greets another female sunning herself on the beach at Kangaroo Island’s Seal Bay Conservation Park (South Australia). This species is an eared seal and due to heavy hunting in the 19th century almost became extinct; it is now listed as Endangered and is one of the rarest species on earth.
