Description:
Lake Argyle was created when the Ord River was dammed in 1971. The tiny dam wall, 335m long and 98m high, holds back 10.7 million mega litres of fresh water and spans 1000 square kilometres. The peaks of the Carr Boyd Ranges that remain above water include interesting geological features such as this tectonic wave of banded minerals that were long ago compressed and then buckled.
