Media Name:
Monarch Butterfly, Cairns Botanical Gardens, Queensland, Australia
Description:
A monarch butterfly (Danaus plexippus), aka wanderer or milkweed butterfly, feeds on a flower in Queensland’s Cairns Botanical Gardens. The monarch was accidently introduced to Australia in the late 1870s either by storm or along with two varieties of milkweed. Some consider the monarch to be a pest in Australia while butterfly sanctuaries actually breed them. Captive.
